Crazy, Stupid, Love

Rated PG 13. Comedy/Drama. 118 minutes.

I will start out by saying that I waited FAR TOO LONG to see this movie. Mainly because again, the man sis not want to watch with me. I can't say that I blame him because I cried. Twice. They started talking about how he met his soul mate when he was 15 and thats how old I was when I met Kevin, so sue me if I cried! Another reason it was probably a good idea for us to stay away? Two words.

RYAN GOSLING.

This man could possibly ruin all other men for me. I dare him to visit my state. I cannot handle how attractive he is. Its unfair really. While I was watching I thought to myself, "Damn! I wish I looked like him!!!"

Back to the movie. It was super sweet. Totally all about love and how sometimes it works and sometimes, well, it really doesn't. And its hard and it sucks. But it can be the most amazing thing at the same time. Even when you aren't looking for it, love can sweep you off your feet.

I like movies that show things in all different perspectives, young to old. Everyone can relate. You can relate based on your current situation, on previous encounters or see what you have to look forward to. I couldn't relate to all parts of this movie, but it was still real to me. It was funny, it was tender, and it made me cry like a little love sick puppy. I too love love. I love seeing it and being in it. Its the best feeling in the world, but also, more scary than anything you can feel. I wish I hadn't waited so long to see it.

Sherlock Holme:s A Game of Shadows

Rated PG 13. Action. 129 minutes

I am so glad I watched the first Sherlock Holmes movie shortly before I saw the new one. It reminded me of the story, the bad guy is the bad guy behind everything in the first film, and it reminded me of the speed of the movie. This is a great sequel. It was right in step with the first. The dialogue, the story, the way it was filmed, everything was the same as the first. Not to say I felt like I had seen it already. But it stayed so true to what Ritchie had intended with the first movie. Robert Downey is just as adorable and quirky as ever. Jude Law still puts up with his crap, but they have this unbreakable bond. I don't think Holmes got in as much trouble with the law as he did in the first, but he is just as insane!
This movie was a lot of fun, and really perfect if you loved the first film.

Our Idiot Brother

Rated R. 90 min. Comedy/Drama

I. Love. Paul. Rudd.
There. I said it. He is fabulous, I have loved him since Clueless all those years ago. I love every line that he says in every movie that he has ever been in. He's a hottie, hes hilarious, and he can act, what more can you ask from a guy?? Again, this was a movie I REALLY wanted to see in theaters, but was unable to because of the boyfriend.

'Brother' is about Ned. Ned is the nicest, most trusting and loving guy you've ever met. He wants to make everyone happy and he's honest. A CLOTHED police officer asked him for weed and yes, he bought it and yes, he went to jail. But thats just his nature! Like he says, he thinks people are honestly good and if you give them the chance to prove that to you, hopefully more often than not, they'll impress you. He says whats on his mind. He observes people, he is simple. Unfortunately, his observations and trusting personality get him into trouble. He lets people know things that were told to him in confidence. It all ends well and his family realizes that the reasons he was driving them crazy are the reasons they love him the most.

It really was a sweet story, and something I needed to see at the time. I too like to think there is good in everyone and that people want to do the right thing. I don't believe in keeping secrets, but being honest. Ned is someone we all can learn from.

God that sounded like the end of a high school English paper...

All Good Things

Rated R Drama/Thriller
The main draw I had to this movie was Ryan Gosling. After 'Drive', I'm going to watch anything that man ever does. I had never heard of this movie, but it sounded pretty interesting. I love true crime, so anything at least based on some actual events, count me in. This movie was WORLDS different than what I thought it was going to be. I'm honestly still not sure how I feel about it.

The description says that David Marks (Gosling) wife goes missing, that did not happen until the end. You see how he meets his wife, Katie. The Marks family owns mass amounts of property in New York circa 1970s, this is where the story begins. David is the oldest of two sons and not interested in this rich, preppy lifestyle. He and Katie marry about a year after meeting and move out of New York and start an organic store. David's father is not impressed in the least and forces David to move back to New York and participate in the family business. Part of Davids issues with his father stem from watching his mother commit suicide when he was only a child and he has never gotten over these issues. He isn't thrilled in the least about being home and working, but Katie is trying to make the best of it. She wants to raise a family and focus on other things than the job, but Daivd refuses based on his own problems. The relationship becomes very rocky and the couple spends less and less time together.

Katie becomes pregnant and David forces her to get an abortion. After that, things go downhill rapidly. They spend even less time together, Katie goes back to school to become a doctor, David hates this, why, I still have no idea. I think he was just realizing that he was still losing her. It all comes to a head when David grabs her by the hair and drags her out of her graduation party in front of her entire family. Things continue to get violent, btu because he is a trust fund baby, not all of his money is his, so Katie cannot leave him because he is her source of income. So she blackmails him and the family. Though they both want the relationship to work, it just doesn't seem to, David keeps ruining things. One day, poof, she is gone. We never find out what happened to her. It could have gone one of two ways. He killed her or she really just left him and never contacted anyone again.

After she vanishes, he gets out of town and goes to Texas. To really stop being David Marks, he starts dressing like a woman.. He gets into this weird friendship with an old man that lives in his building. The old man finds out that David has lots of money. The old man also does some of Davids dirty work and kills one of his best friends because she writes a book that sounds too familiar to Katies disappearance. The old man becomes too much for him to handle, so he kills him. David somewhat narrates the story while he is on trial for the old mans death. He was convicted of unproper removal of a dead body, because he chopped him up ino pieces and dropped him into a lake, but the death was ruled self protection, because they had a fight.

Like I said, we never find out what actually happened to Katie, we just watch the story of a WEIRD man with tons of issues..

J. Edgar

Rated R Drama/Biography

I will be the first to admit, I knew NOTHING about J Edgar Hoover, though I totally knew his name. This may sound terrible, but I thought he had been out President, because lets be honest, Herbert Hoover isn't very memorable.. I will also be very honest in saying that I was REALLY skeptical of this movie. I do love Clint Eastwood, mainly for Gran Torino (I laughed harder at that movie than I probably should have and I laughed because I totally understood and it was making me so happy) but heres why I was weary. Biographies like this can be REALLY slow. And dark, which makes for a boring movie. Let me tell you, this movie was anything but boring. So interesting that I have thought about it for the last two days.

This movie paints such a great picture of the man. I loved it mainly because it didn't tell only what he did in his personal life and not only what he did in his professional life. It told it all! I think thats why I have such a problem with other government officials movies.. It only tells one side of the story, maybe thats because the people aren't all around interesting?? I learned right from the begining something that I never knew. Hoover helped start the system for coding books in libraries, making them easier to find! Might be super simple, but too interesting for me haha Also, makes sense why he wanted to do the same with people while creating the FBI. The movie deals with his personal and professional lives, talking about a few specifics in both. Theres the story about trying to find a missing child and about how he blackmailed basically every president to keep the FBI up and running. It also looks at his odd personal life, or lack of one. He had a somewhat strange relationship with his mother, zero relationship with women, but couldn't bring himself to have a relationship with the one man he did love, his right hand man, Tolson. I loved getting to see who he was in both areas of his life. It made him more of a person to me, unlike most movies in this genre do.

I HAVE to tip my hat to DiCaprio and Hammer. DiCaprio is freakin amazing in just about anything he is in, and he completley sold me on Hoover. I fell in love with Hammer in Social Network, and this movie made me realize that he really is going to be a force to be reckoned with. He will be around for a long, long time.

Winne the Pooh (2011)

Rated G Family/Animated
Growing up, I like so many others, watched Winnie the Pooh. There were many shows and movies, but there were few that my brother and I loved inparticular. We LOVED the one where I believe the story line was Piglet was scared of the dark? I remember it was something scary and at night time. Its been so long since I've seen it, and there are SO many Pooh movies, excuse me for not being more specific. It was on a couple months ago on ABC Family and my mom and I sat there and it was like I was 5 again.

Her, my mother, and I were very excited for the new movie to come out, but we never got around to watching it in the theaters. Mom isn't one for going to the movies like I am. So we waited and I got it in Netflix when I saw that it was finally coming out. Its a short film like the rest, and just as great. I found myself laughing so hard at some points and again, it was like I was transported back in time. The animation is the same and for being so new compared to the others, the voices were spot on. The story was simple, which is what so much of us love about Pooh, there are all very simple, as are their problems. It was very cute, and so much fun for all ages.

Immortals

Rated R Action

I saw this movie because of my boyfriend. The same people that made this also made 300, and I do love that movie, but this was definitely a "because Kevin wants to" type of thing. That being said, I was happily surprised!

Immortals follows Thesius, an awesome, poor fighter.

A long long time ago, the Gods got into a HUGE fight with the Titans, and well, the Gods won. So they put the Titans in this box with bars in their mouths for the rest of eternity. The box can only be opened using the bow and arrow. Well Mickey Rourke aka- awesome villain with a crazy name that I forgot, decides he wants to rule the world and get rid of the Gods because he doesn't worship them. So he's going to find the arrow and set the Titans free so they can beat the Gods. So he looks everywhere for the arrow and comes across Thesius' little town and kills everyone, including his mom, right in front of him. He ends up getting captured, then running away with the Virgin Oracle (she can see the future) and they have to stop Rourke from letting the Titans loose. Meanwhile, the Gods are watching this and starting to freak out. Zeus reminds them that they cannot interfere with the humans and help him. If they do, he'll kill them. Crazy fight scene, followed by crazy fight scene and you get a pretty awesome movie.

I wish so badly that we had seen this in 3D. I don't think there were a huge amount of scenes where things would have actually come out at us, but the graphics were so cool, I think it would have made the movie look even better. My boyfriend hasn't stopped raving about this movie, and I find myself thinking about it too. If you love action and mythology, then this is definitely a movie you should check out.

A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas

Rated R Comedy

I'll admit, I am a fairly new fan of Harold and Kumar. I didn't get what all of the fuss was about when their first movie came out. It also took me forever to see the second one. I think based on my age and possibly some of the people I know, the movies have become funny to me.

Needless to say, I was very excited to see this movie! I haven't seen very many movies in 3D, but this one looked really good. I really enjoyed the story, since it seems to be one that I can relate to, given some circumstances going on in my life lately. It was about the guys growing up and how they can't have fun and smoke weed and do nothing all of the time. But it was also about how being an uptight, conservative, people pleasing grown up isn't the way to go either. You can be a grown up and still have fun, balance of both worlds.

The movie was super funny, and I DEFINITELY want a 'Waffle Bot' hahaha The 3D was a fun effect, it worked well with this comedy since there was some action. I do feel like a lot of the funny parts were in the commercials, but I also saw it pretty late at night and about two weeks ago, so I don't remember it perfectly.

Paranormal Activity 3

Rated R Horror

Not going to lie.. I was VERY excited to see this movie last night! I had been looking forward to going to see it, but we've been so busy every weekend, I was figuring it wasn't going to happen. We met up (kind of) with some friends late last night and watched it.

Now, you should know the story by now, but here is a little catch up. The first movie is actually the last. The story is about two sisters and the ghosts that haunt them. When weird things start happening, the families put up cameras to catch all of the action. This film goes back to the very begining, when the sisters were children.

I love horror movies and the ones that freak me out are the ones with kids in them, so this one was pretty perfect for me! I really loved the first one, it was so different and even though the majority of the movie wasn't scary, the end really did it for me. The last one was decent, but underwhelming compared to the first. I was worried about the newest installment, but it was really good! There were some funny parts, like in the other two, but I think I was more scared watching this one. All of the scary moments made you jump, not really psychologically scary. Until I got home anyways! I'm surprised some people have said it wasn't very good when I am pretty sure its my favorite of the three.

The Thing

Rated R Sci fi/Horror

Alright, I am not a huge Stephen King fan. Really, the only thing I like from him is Carrie. I've tried reading his books, and I just cannot seem to get through them! He spends waaay too long describing the garden or whatever. I can't get into it. I have seen some of his movies, and its not that he has bad ideas, theyre just weird or not executed to my liking. This all leads me to The Thing. Kevin was very excited to see it. I didn't think it looked terrible. He really liked the original, I hadn't seen or read it, so I was entirely clueless going in.

Heres the story in as much of a nutshell as I can give. It takes place in the late 80s. In Antarctica. In reality, those two things should have been my first warnings, last night, maybe because I was so exhausted, I was willing to give it a shot. These Germans, I think, find this HUGE space ship stuck in the ground and a little down the way, they find this big ass alien frozen in the ground. So they dig out the alien, are all excited about it, BOOM it shoots up out of the ice and is on the loose! They find him after he eats someone and figure out that they can kill him with fire.

Heres the tricky part! This alien is super cool and its cells manipilate into ours, disguising the alien as a human! SO we get into the whole 'the alien could be any of us' and drags on forever. That story line is super played out. And, after the movie, we figured out that there were 10 people left when they figured this out. Thats a lot of people to kill! Not to spoil the movie or anything, but thats obviously the point.

Kevin guessed a lot of the movie right, I totally guessed the plot and ending right. We're soooo over all of these "the killer could be any of us!" story lines its not even funny! Thats basically what any horror or thriller is about anymore! Its NOT creative, no matter how many 'twists' are thrown in, because in reality, we've seen this movie a bunch of times. Its just set somewhere different and has different actors.

At first I was kind of into the movie, mainly because I had no idea what it was about. But once we figured it out and then the ending dragged on forever, I was done. People actually clapped for it!! Are you kidding?! I sat there and said how it would end an hour ago and you clap?! Its really sad how lame most of the movie watching population is that they think that is a good movie. Hell the movie isnt even decent! The only thing I will give them is that at one point, 'the thing' becomes two headed. VERY rare, I cant think of a movie off of the top of my head where the villian has two heads, so that was neat. but that was all. And do NOT go see it just for that, just look up the movie stills online or something.

This movie gets 2 out of 5 stars and only for the two heads.

The Cell

Rated R Thriller

Kevin has been telling me to watch this movie for a while now, and we finally did last night. Its not exactly scary, but it is definitely creepy as hell! As we were watching I kept thinking, out loud, how I was going to have some pretty messed up dreams afterwards. Luckily I didn't.

So here's what its about. JLo is kind of a therapist. The kind of therapy she does is prety neat though. She has been working with this kid that is in a coma and theres this crazy machine thing that lets mind enter his mind. The thought is that she can bring him out of the coma using this method. Well Vincent D' Onofrio is this serial killer, this schizo that kills women and makes them look like dolls. Vince Vaughn is a detective, they find Carl, the killer, but he had a stroke of some kind and is now in a coma. They need to get in his brain to find out where his latest victim is, there were no witnesses and he is the only person that knows where she is.

Turns out going in a schizos' mind is freakin trippy!!! Yuck! It freaked me out. The movie was done really well though otherwise it would have looked terrible. They have some really neat shots and camera work. It freaked me out pretty bad haha The story is fairly interesting, but you do really have to pay attention otherwise youll get lost.

I think Vaughn is a terrible choice for a detective, but this was one of his earlier movies, and JLo wasn't a bad choice either, it was before she became a terrible actress. Overall I enjoyed it and I'm glad we watched it. Man, just thinking back, that dudes head was tooooo weird! Freaking me out, even now!

I'd probably give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Scream 4

Scream 4 Rated R Horror

So I have basically been waiting since this movie came out last year to watch it.. We never got around to seeing it in theaters, so I was very excited when G Funk Nasty (aka Kevins mom) wanted to buy it at Target last night!

I'll be honest, I had high hopes for this movie. And I really thought I could figure out the killer before they showed me. At first, I was not super impressed by the movie. I thought I figured out the killer, but I couldn't which was fun! Once that started unraveling, I was very happy with the movie. Leading up to it? Not so much..

They were fully addressing horror movies, which was kind of interesting, but it made it seem like there were very aware of being in one, which I'm not sure I liked.. Another part I know I did not like was how little emotion they had for the people around them dying! I mean, at least in FInal Destination there is grieving time! I get that this all happened in one weekend, but if one of your best friends died, you would go out, get drunk with a bunch of kids and watch a horror movie that someone is copying and just did to said dead friend? No way Jose!

The end was pretty awesome though! Favorite line? "Fuck you, Bruce Willis" hahahahaha! So there were some great scenes, and it all came full circle, so we know its done. They went back to the begining one which I thought was awesome because I love it so much. There were no 'scary' scenes though, but I AM super jaded, so thats to be expected with me!

Probably give it 3 of 5 stars

Chain Letter

96 min. Rated R Horror

So I will start out by saying that my boyfriend is a huge Horror movie freak, he'll watch any that he can get his manly hands on. I love horror too, however I am insanely jaded and it takes A LOT for me to get scared and I really only like a horror movie that can scare me. Those that don't I consider thriller haha Well, ones with a good story line anyways. OH disclaimer! Since it IS October now, and Halloween IS my fav holiday and horror IS my fav genere, this month will be full of horror films ; ) Hopefully, its gonna be a busy month, but I shall do the best I can!

Onto this movie! We rented it from Redbox and it came out some time last year, totally hadn't heard of it, but our horror selection was limited. So we rented this one. It said it was along the lines of Final Destionation, which in my opinion is a TERRIBLE group of films, but I let the man have free reign of the movie tonight. The description was right on the money- totally like Final Destination. High schoolers get a chain letter saying if they don't pass it on to 5 people within 24 hours they 'will lose a life from the chain link' or however it was put. There are HUGE overtones about technology and how bad it is and how we over look the bad and only see the good, yadda, yadda. So its all really about technology and how it can be used for bad, but it wasn't done very well, getting the point across I mean. They tell you about it straight up and I really hate that, I'd rather figure it out for myself. BUT thats just me : )

Anyways, the story was ok. I enjoyed the way people were killed and the end had a nice twist. Scary though? Not to me. It had more gore in it than a thriller should, but there were no legit scary parts for me. It was a solid 3 of 5, not sure I'd give it a 4.

Like I said, I will do my best to watch horror movies this month, but no promises since I'm going to be a busy bee!

XOXO

Drive

'Drive' 100 min. Rated R (Action)

I should start off by saying that I was VERY excited to see this movie. From the previews, it looked really different and it was nice to see Ryan Gosling again, not to mention I love the rest of the cast. We saw it last night and it was SO much different than I was expecting!!

Since it was nothing like I was expecting, I should give a brief overview. Gosling works with cars and is a stunt driver. He also drives for criminals during robberies and whatnot. And he's great at all of these things. He meets and falls for this chick and her son that live down the hall from him and finds out her husband, the kids dad, is in prison. Well he gets out and owes people money and if he doesn't theyre going after the family. Gosling finds out about all of this and because he loves them, he offers to help. Obviously things go awry and he realizes who he's dealing with and things get NUTS.

My absolute favorite part about the film is.. well okay its a tie. Let me just get it out of the way. RYAN GOSLING IS A GOD. Holy bajolies the man is smokin!!!!!! Kevin started making fun of me because at a few points my mouth was literally hanging open. Hes not even shirtless or anything which makes him that much sexier. There are so many close ups of his face and hes so sexy and serious but he gives this childish smirk that blows my mind. OKAY, I SAID IT. Now for the rest of the movie..

My real favorite part was what they did with the sound. There are some very quiet parts in this film. Its very quiet during his car rides and scenes with other actors which I LOVE. I love it because they don't say much, but you can feel the tension, whether it be good or bad. You know what theyre thinking and feeling based on their faces. Its amazing. And the soundtrack blew my mind!!! Seriously wanna buy it. Every song worked perfectly with its scene and since there were parts with little dialouge, the music took over and continued to tell the story.

'Drive' also has some blood and violence, not gonna lie. And its different blood and violence. You can tell he gets really shooken up by what happens, not like every other action movie where everyone blows each other to pieces and acts like its no big deal. Its all very realistic which had us squirming in our seats and moaning and covering our faces, well, mine anyways.

Kevin and I left amazed by it and said in the car on the way home that its definitely one to buy. I suggest this to anyone, its easily one of my top 3 of the year.

INTRO

Hello cyber world!

This is something I have wanted to do for a while, a MOVIE BLOG!!! : D

If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE movies. They are my hobby. I wish I was artsy enough to make them or write them or whatever, but I'm not, instead I watch them. A LOT of them! For a while the boyfriend and I were going to the movies like every week. Not to mention my mini collection that will always be a work in progress. I imagine having a movie room in my future house with the entire back wall covered in movies. I also have Netflix, which adds to even more movies for my viewing pleasure!

So here it is, my movie blog. If I watch something really good, interesting, or terrible, you will hear about it. I think it will be neat to track the movies I've seen and what I thought/think about them. I can't guarantee that what I write will be proper and 'by the book' but every word will be my open and honest opinion.

I hope you enjoy my posts, take my advice and share your opinions!
